Benefits

The selective 2D and 3D varnish can be applied to virtually any type of support, whether paper or synthetic, creating very striking effects, both to the eye and to the touch. The application of the varnish is ideal in those cases where the aim is to attract the attention of the consumer or to transmit a quality image.

This finish also generates interaction, it is possible to apply it in its 2D or 3D dimension, depending on the thickness you are looking for. Among its main characteristics, the liquid repellency and the high resistance to the friction stand out.

The selective 2D varnish is applied as a print finish to highlight design details through gloss, using 100% black to create the silhouette of the areas to be covered.

The selective 3D varnish creates texture with relief which gives volume and depth to the images. It is also used to highlight text or motifs. This is achieved by using a black gradient layer: the higher the percentage of black, the greater the relief, with a maximum of 100% and a minimum of 10%.

Both varnishes can be combined with other finishes such as digital printing to differentiate the most outstanding elements of the brand and obtain a connotation associated with luxury. They can also be combined in the same piece with the special inks or the laser die, depending on the needs of each design.

The digital varnish is not only used to highlight areas with high brightness and/or relief, but also serves as a resource to create watermark effects.

Specifications

The final artwork is delivered in pdf format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and at actual size. The pdf has to contain a page with the graphic design, and another one with the areas selected to apply the digital varnish, outlining the area and naming that layer as “Varnish” to identify it correctly. A margin of at least 3 mm must be respected from the cutting edge and from the folds without application of varnish. Remember to point out the cutting guidelines.

It is advisable to use the registration marks to ensure that they exactly match the areas of the design you wish to cover with the varnish layer. For a better finish, it is recommended to apply on dark surfaces. It is mandatory to apply matte plasticization on parts with a digital varnish finish. In addition, the application of the varnish in folds or crevices should be avoided, otherwise it could come off due to the pressure exerted.

For application in typographies or lines, it must be taken into account that the line must have a minimum of 0.5 mm in 3D and 0.25 mm in 2D; and in openwork 1 mm in 3D and 0.5 mm in 2D.
