Bar Brutal: A Cookbook of Revelations

Bar Brutal: A Cookbook of Revelations is a publication dedicated to the history of Bar Brutal, one of the venues that best represents Barcelona’s new natural wine scene. Founded in 2013 by Max and Stefano Colombo, Joan València and Joan Ramon Escoda, the bar has become a meeting point for winemakers, sommeliers, chefs and wine professionals, while helping to shape a new way of understanding wine culture. The book has been published by Apartamento Publishing, a publishing house renowned for its projects related to design, gastronomy and contemporary culture.

More than a cookbook, the publication offers a collective portrait of Bar Brutal and the community that has grown around it. The volume features 26 recipes by chef Mathieu Perez, testimonies from more than eighty contributors connected to the worlds of wine, gastronomy, music and culture, as well as photographic essays by Adrià Cañameras, Nacho Alegre and Yago Castromil. Edited by Madeleine Willis, former editor of Apartamento and a regular at the bar, the book combines recipes, photography, archival material and personal stories to document more than a decade in the life of this Barcelona institution.

At Nexe Impressions, we managed the graphic production of the volume, which combines Coral Book Ivory and Creator Star papers from Torraspapel. The endpapers are produced on Arena Ivory Rough by Fedrigoni Paper, while the cover is wrapped in Novalite Emotions by Winter & Company. The printing combines different colour configurations, including CMYK, one Pantone ink and one black ink, adapting to the book’s various editorial contents. The cloth-bound hardcover binding features a rounded spine, headbands and two red ribbon bookmarks. The project is completed with foil stamping on the cover wrap, spine and back cover.
